The second episode picks up where the first couple of minutes of the first leaves off, and does end with a surprising cliffhanger. I haven't seen the third ep yet, but I'm hoping the show passes muster. I was talking to a friend and I'm not sure I've ever seen a medieval or swords/sorcery anime that really passes muster. Of course this includes Lodoss War. Compare with wacky comedy or futuristic cyber/mecha -- loose genres full of worthwhile shows.
