The first episode was mostly parody, both to establish the setting and characters to an extent, and to indulge in Druaga nostalgia. The second episode picks up where the first couple of minutes of the first leaves off, and does end with a surprising cliffhanger. I haven't seen the third ep yet, but I'm hoping the show passes muster.

Love to hear more about this one at some point... they might not be cribbing from primo sources, but frankly no other medieval anime does either. I was talking to a friend and I'm not sure I've ever seen a medieval or swords/sorcery anime that really passes muster. Of course this includes Lodoss War.

Compare with wacky comedy or futuristic cyber/mecha -- loose genres full of worthwhile shows.
